A Good Laugh Can Make You Snort In Public . . .

Updated: Aug 9, 2021

How long has it been since you laughed? Are you in such a hurry to get things done that you are forgetting to laugh? Does your "to do" list consist of people, places, and things? Instead of singing happy songs, do you find yourself crying the blues? Let's see what we can do to change your tune today. Laughter can be music for your soul. It is contagious. If you don't believe it, try spending an afternoon with a really good friend who makes you snort when you laugh. Before you know it, everyone around you is laughing too. You know you are with friends when they still want to hang out with you even when you snort in public. Even after you leave the room, the smile on your face will linger for a while. Could this be why girls like spending time together? To find reasons to laugh even when your heart is breaking is a survival mechanism we should all keep in our hip pocket. We all have unexpected twists and turns in this thing called "life" and to have the ability to punctuate the situation with laughter is a mark of maturity. Find reasons to laugh every day!

I've heard it said, "A day is wasted unless we fall over in a heap laughing." My husband and i started a tradition with our grandchildren several years ago. When we go on vacation, we purchase joke books to be used daily with the family. Each day throughout the week the grandchildren will take turns picking the "joke of the day." They read it over and over again to memorize it and then say it to each person as they come into the kitchen for breakfast that morning. Everyone laughs hilariously, and the day starts off in the right direction. At the end of the week they always ask us if they can have the joke books to take home with them. It creates a great memory for them and teaches a valuable lesson at the same time.

Finding reasons to laugh daily will take the sting out of the pain. It may not make it go away but it will ease it for a little while. To be carefree, cheerful, mischievous, and happy are attainable characteristics. They are essential tools to keep around when things just aren't funny. I know some days can be down-right rotten, and laughter is the last thing on your mind. I've been there. Even on those days, if you look hard enough, you can muster up a little chuckle that will soften your face with a smile.

Here's what works for me:

I have grown to accept this weighty principle - Life is difficult.

The way I keep my cheery disposition is by shifting the weight off my shoulders and turning my troubles and woes over to God. In spite of the feelings that come with problems, I am given the energy to carry on. I can push the "pause" button and catch my breath. As a result I have a new song in my heart and laughter in my soul.

The world is full of people who will go their whole lives and not actually live one day. I don't want you to be one of them!

Have a great day!!
