Laughter is good for our mental health. Finding humor in embarrassing moments is an excellent way to lift your spirits. When something funny or embarrassing happens to you, write it down. On days when things aren't going quite right, you can read about those funny happenings, and suddenly your day will be brighter.
Life is full of "to do" lists, and the daily tasks can be overwhelming at times. Everyone seems to want something from us. The money runs out before the month ends. The tail wags the dog, which always makes me laugh! Remember when you were younger and you couldn't wait to grow up and be on your own? Now that you're all grown up, there are probably days when you wish you could go back to being a kid again! Life can be hard, and that's a fact.
We've all been given a coping mechanism. A daily dose will ease your pain, lighten your load, help you accept your imperfections, and give you a much better outlook on life. You know what I'm talking about? You guessed it... Humor! Humor can always be found in embarrassing moments. What are some of your most embarrassing moments? Here are a few of mine...
One day, I was in a hospital room filled with both men and women. I was sitting next to the patient's bed, carrying on a conversation, when someone came over and asked me for a pen. I continued my conversation, never looking away from the person I was talking to, and began digging through my purse for a pen. Still talking, and not looking at what I was doing, I pulled out a feminine product (you know, the kind that is shaped kind of like a pen) and without missing a beat, proceeded to give this to the person asking me for a pen. All of a sudden, the room became very quiet. I stopped talking, looked at what I had done, and immediately started my "that was embarrassing" laugh!
Years ago, while I was still living at home with my parents, my family was invited to have lunch with a family that attended our church. It was a hot, summer day, and the man of the house was outside tending to the lawn when we arrived. The lawn mower was very loud, and he did not hear or see us when we showed up. When he finished with the yard work, he came in through the basement, took a shower, put on his socks and shoes, and bounded up the stairs. He immediately stopped when he realized we were sitting in the living room. I immediately turned a deep shade of red, and my mother said to me, "Sue Ann, what's wrong?" I replied, "There's a naked man over there!" You see, the man had only put on his socks and shoes—everything else he was going to wear was in the bedroom upstairs! Once he gained his composure, he proceeded to the bedroom, finished getting ready, came back to the table, and said, "I apologize for greeting you all in my birthday suit, and I hope I didn't ruin your appetite." We all broke out in a very loud "that was embarrassing" laugh and then enjoyed a delicious meal.
My husband and I were at a restaurant one evening, and our discussion turned to finances. When the server came by to see if we needed anything, I held up my glass to ask for more water and said, without thinking, "I'd like some more money please." The server replied, "Honey, I'd like some more money too!" I realized what I had said, and with a "that was embarrassing" laugh, changed my request to "more water, please."
These are just snippets of the many embarrassing moments I've had in my life. My list gets longer every day. I learned years ago to accept my imperfections. Trying to be perfect is exhausting, unrealistic, and can lead to depression. When something embarrassing happens to you, see it for what it is. It's funny!
Always—and I mean always—take time to laugh! It is the music of the soul! If something funny happens to you today, write it down, share it with others. Don't take life so seriously.
Thought for the Day - To laugh is human - to laugh at oneself is divine!
Have a great day!
